Yasmine Yahiatene
La Fracture – premiere

In her solo and first theatre performance La Fracture, Yasmine Yahiatene shares the stage with video material. The performance is an investigation, a search for herself, for her past and above all for a decipherment of a complex and intimate relationship – the relationship with her father. While trying to re-establish contact with him through various media, she returns to her Algerian and Kabyle roots, to her father's alcoholism, and to the overlaps between these two subjects.

Breaking down boundaries between her artistic and social thinking is a priority for Yasmine Yahiatene. She participated in several films as a director and actress. With her Collectif OXO, she has been giving workshops in prisons and community centres since 2018. A work-in-progress of La Fracture was presented at Kaaitheater in July 2021 as part of the Inside-Out festival organised by Citylab.

Kaaitheater is presenting the première together with and at Atelier 210. Afterwards the show travels to France and Germany, and returns in 2023 to Antwerp and Liège.

Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker / Rosas & Cour et Cœur
En Atendant

For En Atendant, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker took inspiration from the Ars Subtilior, the 14th century polyphonic musical. Against the complexity and intangibility of life, De Keersmaeker places the body. En Atendant premiered at the Festival d'Avignon in 2010, by the light of the setting sun. Selected as one of the most interesting performances of the season, it was performed at Kaaitheater during the 2011 Theatre Festival. Now this gem returns to Brussels in the home of Rosas in Vorst.

Soa Ratsifandrihana
g r oo v e

In her first creation g r oo v e, Soa Ratsifandrihana plays with her many heritages. The Millenials generation, which she belongs to, is witnessing the explosion of hybrid and abundant music, the fruit of digital culture. Dances and cultures are also changing and continuing to transform. She quotes and transforms them while dialoguing with the music, sometimes glitch, sometimes hip hop.

Soa Ratsifandrihana is a French-Malagasy dancer and choreographer. Soa has danced with Rosas - in Rain, Fase, the solo Violin Phase, and Rosas danst RosasG r oo v e premiered last year at Atelier 210. After the Kaaitheater presentation at De Kriekelaar, it will tour internationally through France, Italy, and Switzerland, with a stop in Bruges and Brussels.

On 30/09, the evening starts with a Malagasy concert and dinner before the show, and a dance act by Freestyle Lab afterwards. The same evening, Kaaitheater also inaugurates a new mural, made by Aurore Vegas in the framework of the ACT mural dissemination project Your birds, our birds.

Citylab
There’s nothing wrong with people

As a creative incubator for art and artivism, Citylab supports Brussels-based talents when developing and imagining their perspective on urban futures. There is nothing wrong with people seeks to respond to the vital need of many to redefine not only our inner relationships but also our ways of relating to each other and our environment. The programme, its shape arranged by Citylab, is both an unapologetic and an intimate response in search of tools and spaces of healing. There is nothing wrong… is series in four parts, with each one chapter zooming in on a specific emotion. In September, we present the first part, with a focus on anger.

The programme is conceived and curated by Bouchra Lamsyeh and Johanna Couvée. In July 2021, Kaaitheater and Citylab worked together for the first time with the Inside Out festival, which functioned as an artistic mirror of life at the centers of BXL.

Einat Tuchman/Marché Bildy Markt
Secret Fashion Stories

On the 3rd of september, the Secret Fashion Show will reveal the Brussels' synergies of local expertise to the large public. Five designers will share their fashion secrets on the catwalk. Their styles and stories are coming from all around the world. Five Brussels based artists accompany these designers. Together they reveal a network of stories, knowledge and creative living, that composes the extraordinary fabric of our city. The Secret Fashion Show is a performance of dance, theater and fashion where the invisible labour of local artists is celebrated.

Einat Tuchman has been inviting you every last Saturday of the month since March of this year to the Marché Bildy Market in Molenbeek's Gare Maritime. This new local market is a meeting place, where you shape a more sustainable future together. Workshops, interactive performances and concerts bring together stories and experiences about local economy in different cultures.

About Kaaitheater

Stage

Kaaitheater is a stage for dance, theatre, performance, music and debate in Brussels. Founded in 1977 as a pioneer of innovative performing arts, this house has grown into a platform for both work by artists of the Flemish Wave and new generations of performing artists. From Brussels to international, from small to large venues, and just as well in the squares and the streets, where urban and global themes are tangible.

Motto

Under the motto How to Be Many?, the Kaaitheater team makes room for a broad spectrum of stories, perspectives, artists and audiences, so we can learn to better reflect the city's many voices. That we do in cooperation with many partners.

Places

Currently, Kaaitheater’s building on the Sainctelettesquare will be under renovation. We will move into our new building in 2025 and that will give us an additional auditorium as well as a city balcony and spaces for artists and audiences, all of which will give the new urban arts centre on the canal its identity. In the meantime, we will continue to perform in Kaaistudio's, and we will be on the move through the city and briefly make use of at 14 many theatres and partners in and around Brussels, with whom we will present a multifaceted programme.

(In) practice

Looking towards the future, Kaaitheater will continue to develop new lines of participation and mediation so that we can introduce new generations of audiences to contemporary performing arts. We invite organisations and groups that still are underrepresented on the Brussels stages to create their own artistic programmes. This allows us to open the way for co-ownership of artists and audiences.

Kaaitheater moves with the times, stimulates social and artistic debates and embraces the pluriform performing arts of today and tomorrow.
